GLIS participation in The Arctic Circle Forum


The Arctic Circle Assembly took place the fourth time in Harpa, Reykjavik Iceland, during the weekend with over 400 speakers participating in the program. This forum has become an important international gathering in the Arctic dialogue where over  2000 participants from 50 countries attend the event.

Aviation in the arctic, a breakout session on Friday afternoon, was organized by Verkís Consulting Engineers, Air Iceland and GLIS. The speakers and the topics where the following:

  • Halldór Benjamín Þorbergsson, Senior Vice President, Icelandair Group: Airline Operation in the Arctic.
  • Stefán Friðleifsson, Civil Engineer, Verkís: Design Considerations of Airports.
  • Guðmundur Daði Rúnarsson, Technical and Infrastructure Director Keflavik Airport: Planning and Construction of a Near-Arctic Hub.
  • Niels Grosen, Acting Managing Director and Chief Operation Officer, Greenland Airports: Running Airports in Greenland.

Then Kuno Fencker, TheChairman of Royal Arctic Line and Board Member of GLIS participated in panel in the plenary session on Sunday afternoon along with Sara Pálsdóttir, Key Account Manager from our member Eimskip, presenting and discussing the agreement with Eimskip, and the new network being made between Iceland, N-America and Europe.

By the end of the Forum on Sunday Gisli Gislason, Port Director at Faxaflóahafnir chaired the session about the Arctic Circle Mission on shipping and ports where Mead Treadwell, former Lieutenant Governor of Alaska and President of Pt Capital presented the a report on the topic along with his team.
